2005 (1) October Inagural Book Club Meeting [3 Images]

The Inaugural meeting of “The Regal Sisterhood Book Club” was a success! We had a great time socializing and exchanging ideas about the book “The Coldest Winter Ever”. I shared with the group my reluctance to name this as the 1st book for the club after I initially read it. While I found it quite entertaining, I was not sure how the theme of the book could be applied to everyone as a group. The majority of the members are 30+ years old. Nevertheless, we found a way to relate, by reflecting on our own lives and experiences we have encountered. It also gave us the opportunity to be thankful for having a moral upbringing that probably kept us out of a lot of the situations “Winter Santiaga” found herself in. As a group, we agreed that she lacked the conscious that a Christian foundation would have given her. She grew up fast much like a lot of women in the world today. This book provided us with some awareness that may come in handy while we are trying to help another female become a “Regal Woman” one day. The meeting was kicked off with a crossword puzzle, which contained clues from the book. The meeting was facilitated with thought provoking questions, which speared intellectual conversation. Special thanks to all the attendees: Cleopatra Stewart Sherrie’ Jenkins Niki Jones Tiwana White Sabrina Mayfield Kisha Jackson Tammy LeSueur The winner of the crossword puzzle contest was: Mrs. Sherrie’ Jenkins! Sherrie’ won a book light, which will come in handy on those late nights when she is determined to finish a book and her husband is trying to sleep! We ate Stromboli and Calazone, which was catered by “Brooklyn’s”. (The setting of the book was in Brooklyn, New York.) We also had “Virgin” and “Experienced” Long Island Tea’s in remembrance of Winter’s short stay in Long Island, New York.

2005 (2) November Meeting [5 Images]

The 2nd meeting of “The Regal Sisterhood Book Club” was another success! We had a great time socializing and exchanging ideas about the book “Casting The First Stone” by Kimberla Lawson Roby. “Casting The First Stone” by Kimberla Lawson Roby. The content of this book proved to encourage a very intellectual and informative discussion. We discussed the various problems religion is facing today. We all agreed that the main problem is the fact that many ministers are going into the profession for the wrong reasons. They look at it as a career move with enormous financial benefits. In many cases they are nothing more than well read, motivational speakers. We also determined that the ministers are not acting alone, in many cases thrill seeking, disrespectful women who approach them for their own gain and allow themselves to be used as mistresses are to blame as well. While this book brought out the negatives that religion has to offer, as a group, we also remembered and discussed the positives that remain in churches today. We still recognize the significance of good “spiritual food” in our lives. My special thanks to all the attendees: Cleopatra Stewart Sherrie’ Jenkins Tammy LeSueur Anissa Irby Cindy Jennings April Henderson Unsel Whitmire

2005 (3) December Christmas Outing [12 Images]

The Regal Sisterhood went to "Jokes and Jazz" for our 1st annual Christmas Celebration. This was an experience! I must say that the majority of the commedians were funny. BET Commedian, Hope Flood's husband really stole the show. He was hilarious and sad at the same time. At times I was sitting there with my mouth open in amazement! When he told a heckler that he had a job, he had some baseball caps and t-shirts in his trunk for sale, I almost choked! Nevertheless, overall we had a great time. The food was pretty good. The complimentary buffet was not much so we ended up ordering off the menu. We exchanged gifts and had a wonderful time in fellowship. Thanks to all the ladies who attended.

2006 (1) January Meeting [4 Images]

The 4th meeting of “The Regal Sisterhood Book Club” was another success! We had a great time socializing and exchanging ideas about the book “Too Much Of A Good Thing” by Kimberla Lawson Roby. This book is a continuation of our November reading "Casting the First Stone" also by the same author. The content of this book provided us with a wonderful discussion on many topics and prompted some "Good Ol'e Girlfriend Conversation". We had a ball! We continued to ponder the various problems religion is facing today and the age old saying that "Some people will just never learn". "Yielding to temptation is sin!" If God was gracious to bring you out of a bad situation, don't be fooled and fall into the same evil traps again. Thankfully we are all Regal Women of God and realize that he has a plan for all of us. The only way we will find our calling is by staying in tune with our heavenly father and continuing to feed our souls with “spiritual food”. As I stated during the meeting, it is my hope that our time and fellowship together will always be an asset and networking opportunity for us to lift each other up, so that we are revived and equipped to go out and be Regal Women in our homes and communities. My special thanks to all the attendees: Anissa Irby Cindy Jennings Ingrid Durrett Sherrie’ Jenkins Trish Brown Unsel Brown-Whitmire Our gracious host, Anissa, served gourmet sandwiches, chips and a "special" Mango Punch, that was "to die for". Her home is gorgeous and beautifully decorated. Unfortunately, the batteries in my camera did not hold up. I was only able to take a few pictures. Anissa, you have some wonderful decorating ideas. Please remember your sister-in-law over in McKinney! Thanks to all the ladies who made to journey out to her beautiful home in Corinth, Texas. We had a grand time. Even her husband and his friend had to chime into our conversation. We must consider a month for males to formally join our session. What about June?

2006 (2) February Meeting Featuring Author Kimberla Lawson Roby [10 Images]

The February meeting of “The Regal Sisterhood Book Club” was a tremendous success and an achieved milestone for the group! This was our 1st time to have an author come and join our meeting, giving insight to her literary work. We had a great time socializing and exchanging ideas about the book "The Best Kept Secret" by guest author Kimberla Lawson Roby. Kimberla graced the Regal Sisterhood with her presence at Brooklyn's Jazz Restaurant. She was wonderful! The atmosphere, food and service were all great. Brooklyn's Jazz is definitely a place of Regal Class! Kimberla also did a book reading from her new book "Changing Faces". Sounds like she has another best seller on her hands. The book club exchanged valentines gifts. Thanks ladies for participating and selecting such wonderful and meaningful gifts.Special Thanks to my mom, Zola Nash and Sherrie's mom, Linda Cook for joining us. We truly appreciated the wisdom and knowledge you ladies brought to the conversation. Please feel free to join us anytime. My special thanks to all the attendees: Anissa Irby Cindy Jennings Sherrie’ Jenkins Trish Brown Unsel Brown-Whitmire Cleopatra Stewart Zola Nash Linda Cook Andrea Carr

2006 (3) March Outing "Meeting In The Ladies Room" [11 Images]

We had an absolute ball Saturday 3/18/06 for our March Outing! “The Regal Sisters” represented at the 94.5 K-Soul “Meeting in the Ladies Room”. The doors opened at 10:45 and we were off and running. The MC’s for the day were Sybil Wilkes and Lynne Haze. We took in a wealth of information as well as some great food. We had lunch samples from DAZA’s New Orleans Soul Food and sweets from Absolutely Edible Cakes. The “Sweet Potato Thang” was off tha’ chain! Our very own Regal Sister Sherrie’, won the Grand Prize of 2 round trip tickets to anywhere Southwest Airlines flies. How ironic that she would win, since she swore off flying over 13 yrs ago. Good Luck and Congratulations Mrs. Jenkins! We were entertained by the singer Urban Mystic and even got to see Former Dallas Cowboy Darren Woodson’s lovely face. Yes indeed! It was a wonderful day of Sisterhood shopping, makeovers and eating. We topped the day off with dinner at “On the Border”. I am truly looking forward to doing it again soon. Peace, Blessings & Miracles, Misty Irby

2006 (4) April Book Club Meeting [11 Images]

The book of the month was "Good To Me" by LaTonya Mason. Regal Sister, Sherrie' Jenkins was the hostess for the meeting. While we were all in agreement that this was a great book and story line, we also felt that the end was rushed. Charity made some very important decisions at the end and in our opinion the author did not give insight as to how she was able to arrive at her destination. The book was very thought provoking and actually proved to be full of multiple hot topics for our group. We actually spent almost 5 hrs discussing this book. However, we still had some unanswered questions. While in some way we appreciate the author leaving the door open for speculation and revealing conversation, we would have had equal appreciation for clarity on what Charity based her final marriage decision on. We never got the impression that she had deep feelings for the chosen one, as the overview stated. Overall, we felt this was a great read and a few ladies have said that discussing this again could not hurt, because we probably only scratched the surface of the core meaning in the book. Special Thanks to all the meeting attendees. This was a good one! "Good To Me" was truly "Good To Us"!

2006 (5) May Meeting [5 Images]

Our reading for the month of May was "The Darkest Child" by Delores Phillips. Wow what a story! We spent the majority of the meeting trying to figure out what went wrong in the mother's life that would make her act that way. It was a completely unbelievable and sad story. Tangy Mae Quinn told this story through her eyes and we all felt her pains and celebrated in her limited joys. Tangy Mae is a survivor and showed each of us the power of the will to make it, inspite of unspeakable circumstances. Sister Unsel Brown-Whitmire was our gracious host. She served some "off tha' chain" catered barbecue and her mom made her world famous Peach Cobbler. Tha bomb! If you missed it, you certainly missed a treat! Thanks for your wonderful hospitality Unsel. Pat and Zola received gifts from Unsel for being the 1st mother and daughter duo to arrive at the meeting. How sweet! Special Thanks to all attendees: Birdie Unsel Zola Pat Anissa Cindy Carolyn Erica Regal Kiddos: Brandee Brianne Corbin

2006 (6) November - "Faith & Fiction Fellowship" [33 Images]

The Regal Sisterhood took its 1st road trip! Regal sisters Misty, Anissa, Pat & Unsel went to Houston, Texas for the "Faith & Fiction Fellowship" which featured Christian Fiction Authors. LaTonya Mason was the author which prompted us to attend this function. After reading her book "Good To Me", as chosen by Regal Sister Sherrie' Jenkins for the April 2006 club read, we had many unanswered questions. I contacted LaTonya and made arrangements for the club to meet her during this tour. We had the time of our lives, to say the least. I can not describe the knowledge we gained from meeting these phenomenal women. They were all spectacular Spirits, all with wonderful testimonies to share how they got to this point in their lives and how the books were birthed from their souls. Featured Authors: Tiffany Warren LaTonya Mason Yolonda Tonette Leslie Sherrod Bonnie Hopkins Lovell Brigham Angela Caligone Amy Gentry Thomas Brooks Special Thanks to Felecia Smith founder of the "Phenomenal Women Book Club" which was the co-host of the event. Thanks so much for your words of encouragement. You were speaking directly to me when you were saying don't give up on your dream and plans to have a book club. You were right on point about the troubles that go along with forming and struggling to keep such an organization. It was a comfort to know that I am not alone in my struggles. Thanks for giving me the confirmation to keep on keeping on! Super Duper Thanks to the faithful Regal Sisters who attended this weekend. Anissa, Pat and Unsel, you have been there no matter what. Thanks for hanging in there and having a great time. Even though I got on your nerves with all the picture taking :) Peace, Blessings & Miracles, Misty

2006 Christmas Gathering- "Gaylord Texan Ice Exhibit" [17 Images]

The Regal Sisters had a wonderful time at the "Ice" Exhibit at the Gaylord Texan on 12/16/06. It was beautiful but cold as heck! I know I had frost bite on my picture taking fingers! LOL!!! You know it's going to be cold when they give you a coat to put over the coat you already have on. Yes, it was -9 degrees below Zero in that baby! Dinner afterwards at Cozumel's was awesome, as well. Thanks ladies for a wonderful year! Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to All! Attendees: Misty Irby Cleopatra (Pat) Stewart Unsel Whitmire Sherrie' Jenkins Anissa Irby Andrea' Carr

2007 (1) January Meeting [5 Images]

The 1st meeting of 2007 proved to carry on in "Regal Sisterhood" Tradition. Regal Sister Andrea was our gracious hostess to kick off our 2nd year. We had a great time socializing and discussing our selected book for January, "Soul Matters" by Yolanda Tonette Sanders. Yolanda is one of the authors we met during our trip to Houston in 2006 for the "Faith and Fiction Fellowship". This Christian Author has it going on and the book was awesome. With so many story lines and thought provoking occurances, we had plenty of conversation for this meeting. Some of the characters actions made us really ponder the question, "What does a Christian really do when the water gets hot"? Ironically, it was the man initially labeled "the dog" in the story line, who proved to have more moral values than the self proclaimed "do good righteous women". My special thanks to all the attendees: Anissa Irby, Cindy Jennings, Unsel Whitmire, Cleopatra Stewart and our gracious host. Andrea served some Chicken Spaghetti that was off tha' chain. Look for a "Regal Sister Recipe" section coming to the website soon. Her home is beautifully decorated and just the right size for her and her two fellas. Thanks to all the ladies who made the journey out and braved the cold weather. We had a grand time!

2007 (3) March Meeting [6 Images]

Our reading for the month of March 2007 was "Rehoboth Road" by Anita Ballard-Jones. Wow what a story! This storyline, spanning over 36 years beginning in 1950, provided hours of discussion material and sparked a few debates. Elizabeth Turner endured the shame and pain of the unimaginable and lived to tell the story of how God can truly work it all out in your favor. Each character of the book showed us how one man’s evil act and another man’s cowardly act, can shape the lives of those around them, in both good and bad ways. This book holds the old saying true, “what Satan means for bad, God will turn around and make it all good”. The worse thing to happen in Elizabeth’s life, proved to give her the best thing she could have ever hoped for. While the story line was wonderful, the ending was absolutely awful! We can’t believe the author just left the story “hanging” the way she did. We were all looking for some type of continuation somewhere in the book. Ms. Jones must have the sequel immediately around the corner! We need to know what happened to Rev. Oliver and Johnny. Sister Unsel Brown-Whitmire was our gracious host. She treated us to a Mexican feast with Enchiladas and all the fixins’. Unsel, thanks to you and your dad, Sam, for your wonderful hospitality. Special Thanks to all attendees: Unsel, Pat, Anissa, Cindy, Andrea’, and our guests Andrea’s mom, Ms. Johnnie and Sam’s friend, Ona. It was an awesome meeting as usual. I love you all!

2007 (4) April Outing - "I Wish I Had Waited" [15 Images]

The Regal Sisterhood took their children out for a wonderful dinner at The Olive Garden and then for a theatrical performance of "I Wish I Had Waited" by the Irving Black Arts Academy. The message of the play was stong. Focusing on the importance of sexual abstinence for our children. The story was told from the viewpoint of 3 different teen girls, each in very unique life changing situations due to their decision to become sexually active. The Regal Sisters saw this as an opportunity to minister to our children while spending some quality time with them and exposing them to the wonderful world of the Arts.

2007 (5) May Meeting [10 Images]

The May 2007 meeting of “The Regal Sisterhood Book Club” was another success! We had a great time socializing and exchanging ideas about the book “Like Sheep Gone Astray” by Leslie J. Sherrod. The storyline of this book provided us with a wonderful discussion on many topics and prompted questions which made us all contemplate our way of life and thinking. Unfortunately, we all agreed that the book was just a little too “busy”. Way too many characters to keep up with and the complications of the business deals made the read a bit tedious. My special thanks to all the attendees: Anissa Irby, Pat Stewart, Andrea’ Carr & Zola Nash. Our gracious host, Anissa, served a Pasta Dish which was simply delicious. Thanks to all the ladies who made to journey out to her beautiful home in Corinth, Texas. Anissa we all wish you well with the sale of your home. We are looking forward to you hosting a meeting in your new home next year! Thanks to her husband, Ken for the tour around the back yard and the awesome boat. Enjoy the pics!

2008 (1) January Meeting [9 Images]

The January book club meeting for the Regal Sisters was awesome, as usual, and the added treat of our special guest, Author Tiffany Warren, was just icing on the cake. We all agreed that our January read, “Farther than I Meant to Go, Longer than I Meant to Stay, by Tiffany was an awesome literary piece of work. Tiffany engaged us with thought provoking situations encountered by the lead character, Charmaine. We asked some tough questions during our meeting and are all still pondering “Who is the real me?” Thanks Tiffany for providing us with some “inside scoop” to the characters and enlightening us with your thought process in their creation. Thanks to our gracious hostess Andrea for serving a great Italian meal and allowing us to toast in the New Year with some champagne. You know how to do it with style Andrea!

2008 (4) April Meeting [7 Images]

The April meeting of “The Regal Sisterhood Book Club” was filled with fun and great conversation. We had an awesome time socializing and exchanging ideas about the book “Love & Lies” by Kimberla Lawson Roby. This book is a continuation of Kimberla’s series on Rev. Curtis Black. The content of this book provided us with a wonderful discussion on many topics and prompted some "Good Ol'e Girlfriend Conversation". We had a ball! Even though Curtis was not the focal point in this book, the other characters and the situations they found themselves in, gave us plenty to ponder and discuss. As usual, we were all able to take something away from the meeting that will help us in our daily walk to be Regal Women, exemplary to those around us. Our gracious hostess, Anissa, welcomed us into her home and her new “Outdoor Oasis”. We had a magnificent time in the Jacuzzi and Pool. She really knows how to entertain with style and class. Thanks to all the ladies who made to journey out to her beautiful home in Corinth, Texas. We had a grand time!

2008 (6) June Meeting [10 Images]

The Regal Sisters made the June meeting an outing as well as book discussion. Our 1st stop was Jokae's Book Store for the book signing of Acclaimed Author Brian Smith. We had a fabulous time discussing some of Brian's previously released books such as "Mama's Lies - Daddy's Pain". We could not leave without picking his brain about his sequel to "Swap Game", "Final Fling". We finished up the day with lunch at Pappadeaux to discuss our May book of the month, "The Ex-Files".
